Unique Selling Point.

Now figuring out your unique selling point, or if your lucky deciding between your many great unique selling points is a process which goes hand in hand with Defining your target market. The whole point of being able to do the ‘Selling’ bit well is you have to know what the your target market market want. So these are two phases that go hand in hand either can be done first or repeated, depending on what information you have to start with.

What makes a good USP?

Well anything really, how good it works depdends. The USP could be it is the cheapest or that it is the most stylist or it is the most effective. These are hard to sell on because really these points are not that unique they are only slight more of something than the other products. A real good USP is something that completely unique and hopefully hard for some one else to copy.

Say you were selling Pizza you could offer a completely new type of pizza, pizza with a meat base, a sweet pizza, a low fat pizza so on. Or you could do what domonio Pizza did and offered a change in their service, they realised that the people ordering pizza were lazy and fufilling a immediate desire. So they offered a gaurentee that the pizza woudl be delievery in under 30 minutes. This increased their sales dramatically.

We have already established that the groups we would be looking at are:

Previously successful entrepreneurs.
Businesses looking to expand

Now what would these people be looking for in some one who they were going to hire to build a website:

That the company have a good track record.
That the company can deliever.
That the company are experts in their field.

If this was a product that they could buy off the shelf what would they be looking for? (What requirement would all of them have in common?)

They look professional.
They perform well.
They brand well
That it is innovative.

So selling the product on any of these point would help it sell. However this in itself is not a USP.
